Same Old Same Old – Run Motivation

I’ve been running this same route for years now. It’s not a particularly exciting route. It’s basically four left turns on straight country roads. It’s become my most frequently run route. My default route. In just the last 4 weeks, I’ve run this route 16 times.
I’ve run easy runs on this route. I’ve run this route as laps and have hit the wall here. I’ve frozen stiff in the winter, melted in the summer, and every other kind of weather in between.
Everyone has a default route, that same old same old that they’ve run over and over. And it’s tempting to think, maybe we should go try something else. Do something different.
But there is power in repetition. Repetition becomes habit. And habit becomes identity.
This same old route that we’ve run over and over and over again is our identity. It is us. Boring. Beautiful. Resented. And celebrated. It is deceptively simple. And maddeningly complex.
This is my same old same old. This is who I am.
