GROW in WINNIPEG Creative Industries

GROW in WINNIPEG Creative Industries

February 20, 2016

Winnipeg is stage and screen to an internationally recognized community of creative professionals. From award-winning architects and designers, writers and performers, artists and animators, and actors and directors to box office-generating production companies and agencies, Winnipeg produces work acclaimed around the world.

The next generation of entertainment is also prospering here, supported by skilled talent and computer technology. Winnipeg has become a hotbed for hot shops engaged in new media, including digital imaging, animation and special effects, interactive games and audio/video production. And destination architecture abounds, spanning from historic turn-of-the-century neighbourhoods like the Exchange District to iconic structures of the modern era like the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.

Join host Peter Jordan as he—more accurately, his avatar (check it out!)—talks with several of Winnipeg’s most plugged-in personalities on the creative industries front. First, Peter chats with Kevin Hnatiuk, chief operating officer at Bold Innovation Group Ltd. Up next is Kenny Boyce, the City of Winnipeg’s manager of film and special events. And finally, Peter drops by the Manitoba Legislative Building to talk with local architectural historian Dr. Frank Albo as they explore how Winnipeg’s architecture inspires the city’s creative class.

As Kenny tells Peter: “We sell more tickets, Peter, for cultural activity than any other Canadian city. We have more cultural workers in Manitoba than agricultural workers. When people come to this city, if they’re not visiting their family or friends or doing business, they’re coming here because we are a city of culture.”
