7.6 – Information Technology

Speaker: Dr. Sasi Pillay, Chief Technology Officer for Information Technology, National Aeronautics & Space Administration

Dr. Pillay serves as the Chief Technology Officer for Information Technology (IT) for NASA. In this capacity he oversees how promising technologies are developed, evaluated and integrated into mainstream IT services at the Agency. Dr. Pillay previously served in a similar capacity at the NASA Glenn Research Center. Dr. Pillay received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State University, as well as a M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from Case Western Reserve University. He also holds a Master’s degree in Management of Technology from the Sloan School of Management at MIT. Dr. Pillay is the recipient of NASA’s Exceptional Service Medal and the Outstanding Leadership Medal. He is also the recipient of the Presidential Rank Award recognizing him as a meritorious executive in the U.S. Federal Government. He was recognized as the CIO of the year by the Northeast Ohio Software Association in 2008. He has written approximately 20 papers on pattern recognition and medical diagnostic systems.
