Robert Kirshner, chief science program officer at the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, discusses the foundation’s support for a public-private partnership to develop breakthrough research and technology that will quickly detect earthquake shaking and issue an earthquake early warning before shaking arrives, potentially saving thousands of lives and billions of dollars in damage.
