January 7, 2016

Seminar title: Social Media Plugin

Rob was Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Freeserve, the transformational Internet Service Provider where, after a floatation on the London Stock Exchange and New York NASDAQ, he became one of the youngest executive officers of a FTSE 100 company at the age of 29. Rob left Freeserve after the completion of a £1.6 billion sale to Wanadoo (a division of France Telecom) in 2001. Since then, he has continued to invest in a range of technology, service and media companies, including the marketing and communications consultancy bcsAgency, where his owner and director for all things digital.

Rob also is an executive and non-executive director and chairman of a number of other companies and public sector boards including Crowdicity a crowdsourcing tool for change management, and Doncaster College where his knowledge of technology and business acumen has been instrumental in turning around the previously failing education provider. Rob recently organised a highly-acclaimed ‘social media in education’ conference, centred around the college, and in collaboration with Chris Brogan — the Number One social media expert from the US.

Rob is also visiting fellow at the University of Bradford within the school of Computing, Informatics and Media where he helps with the commercialisation of research and intellectual property. Rob was made an honorary Doctor of the University in July 2010.

A regular speaker at events up and down the land (and around the world), what Rob doesn’t know about social and digital media probably isn’t worth knowing.
What he absolutely excels at is ensuring that campaigns deliver business benefit.

“I believe in and support the Yorkshire Mafia because it works. The groundswell of conversation within the LinkedIn group and its diverse subgroups, combined with the informal offline get togethers nurtures the perfect community for doing business.”

Rob Wilmot, Director bcsAgency
